To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to formally request the establishment of gas service at my property located at 6801 Patterson St, Riverdale, MD 20737. The previous occupant, who has vacated the premises, held the Washington Gas account solely in their name. I am not, nor have I ever been, the account holder for their service.
Under Maryland Public Utilities Code §7‑309, a utility provider may not deny service to a new applicant or property owner due to unpaid charges incurred by a former tenant. The statute clearly states that arrears follow the individual account holder, not the property or the landlord.
I am requesting immediate processing of a new service account for the tenant, Maynor Enrique Ulloa Pinto, effective May 2025.. Any outstanding balance associated with the former tenant should remain solely with that individual, as required by Maryland law. Tenants been having issues since they move in to get service. They made several attempts to establish service under his name.
Please confirm in writing that service will be established without requiring payment of the former tenant’s balance. If additional documentation is needed (lease agreement, proof of ownership, etc.), I will provide it promptly. I also provided all doc's requested.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your timely response.
