Mike Gee Kustoms untrustable

I’m Andrea from Italy, and this is my experience with Mike Gee, hope may help someone:
I contacted him because I wanted him to build me a billy-bo thunderbird.
Before the purchase, I sent him lots of mails asking questions, and he always replied me very quickly.
He told the price was 600 $ including shipping (to Italy) and I had to pay him 450$ (with paypal) first, and the remaining 150$ when finished.
As soon as I payed him the 450$, his replies weren’t as quick as before, sometimes didn’t replied at all.
I spent 2 months asking him when he could start to build my guitar, and him replying “Sorry I’m full of work right now, I’ll begin asap, etc..”
So, I warned him that next month I would file a “case/dispute” to paypal, unless he shows me any progress.
He never replied, so, after 3 months from the purchase, I filed the paypal case, asking to get my money back.
Next day, he replied “Your guitar will be ready for Shipping tomorrow. We are out of the shop today for the labor day holiday. Please close the case”.
What !?!? where this guitar comes from, all of a sudden ?! he built it overnight !? maybe with stock leftover parts ?! How could he paint it, since I didn’t decided the colour yet ?!?!
Usually during the building process (which in his case he says it takes 4-6 weeks), the liuther/builder shows you the progress, sends some photos, asks for details/clarifications, if he’s doing right, there is some communication.
I asked him to send me a photo, he replied “I am not in shop today. It is a holiday here”, so I escalated the case to claim.
Next day, he sent me the photos, the guitar looked nice, even though I didn’t told him how to paint it, but at this point I didn’t trust him anymore, so I told him “you send the guitar, then I’ll pay you the remaining 25% and close the claim, or, you give me all my money back”.
He replied “you have to pay and close the claim first, otherwise if you want the money back, there is a 15% restocking fee since it is a custom order”
Since we didn’t find an agreement, we stopped the communication, and go on respond thru paypal.
Then I received this message from paypal “A partial refund in the amount of $382.50 has been suggested to resolve this complaint. Price of the deposit minus 20% restocking fee. If you do not decide on this partial refund offer within 3 calendar days, PayPal will complete the investigation and determine the outcome of the claim. “
I refused the partial refund, and finally Paypal gave me all my money back.
The problem is that I lost 37 euros since exchange rate between Dollar and Euro changed in the last 3 months, and another 10 euros for payment and refund transactions (as usual, rate when buying, and rate when paying, are different).
So, after 3 months, I lost 47 euros (about 55$) and no guitar.

Mike Gee Kustoms Not Trustworthy

I was looking around for a new guitar.. happened to come on an eBay page listings. It was a resell of one of Mike Gees guitars claiming Mike Gee makes wonderful guitars. Now that.. I cannot argue. I wanted to buy one of his guitars just because they look awesome and sound really great from the videos I saw on youtube. So on September 5th 2013 I placed and order for a blue burst Les Paul with some upgraded features. You can see the customer order I attached. I paid $525 down and owed $174 whenever he was done and showed me the complete product. He advised that It would take him roughly 10 weeks to complete this. I was excited thinking what a nice Christmas gift for myself. Around the 10th week I called him and he said he's backed up and would get it done in a week or two. I was happy that it was being worked on and all and said fine ok no rush (At that moment) I was really hoping to get it before December 31st, I was playing for a New Year’s Eve service and wanted to be ready for it with my new guitar. That came and passed and still he was not done. Now I was ok still. On January 1st 2014 it's been 4 months. That's 18 months and 8 months overdue! Really? Could I have gotten a call or an email with some type of understanding? No.. I had to call him and text him. I would call and no answer. I left voice mails and still no answer. Finally a day later he advised he could not talk and to text him. So I text him again and he advised me on January 2nd in his own words, "Hello I'll have your l.p. done and ready to ship Wed or Thursday . Next ‘week.” At this point I’m excited to get my hands on my new piece of custom work! But wait.. A week later on Thursday January 9th I text him if it is done as he said it would be and the response I get is “in a meeting call you right back”. I can understand that you know he’s busy we all are busy so I understood. No call back given. The next day on January 10th I texted him again to see if he can give me a call back to update me on a response…. He never responded. On January 13th I texted him again to see if he can give me an update and again no response. Now keep in mind I occasionally call him as well and leave voice mails with no response given from him. On January 14th He finally responds to me and says that he has been sick. And that he will get me some pics of the guitar. I told him I appreciated it and I waited for the photos. I got a couple pics of the guitar on January 15th. At this point I have a visual I’m really excited! We talked about some finishing touches and he asked me about the stain on the back and I’m like Yeah! He is finally working on my guitar!. He explained that he was going to have the finish done by Friday January 17th. On January 16th He sent me more photos of the guitar. It was looking so sweet! On January 22nd he sent me a few more photos of the back of the guitar showing the finish completed And I mean its a TOTAL BEAUTY! On January 30th I Asked for another update as I did not hear for him in a week He claimed that he will have the bridge that week. I asked him how much longer would it take to be done and the reason being I have a conference that I’ll be playing at on Feb 27th and wanted to have my product that I ordered. No response given. On February 10th I sent him a more pressing text stating that I’m getting concerned about the guitar. I ordered it in August (But it was really September) and it is now February. I asked him about a refund policy. He responded that He was sorry and that He has 5, 000 things going on at once. He PROMISED it will be done this week. At this point I have had the run around for too long. I was fed up that the communication is all on my end and he was not fulfilling the promises that he made to me. So on Tuesday February 18th A week later I asked him for an update. He claimed he was trying to get out to the shop to ship it if not he will ship it the following day. I confirmed my address and on Saturday February 22, 2014 I texted him if he shipped the guitar no response so I said I guess you don’t have to ship my guitar. I understand you’re busy but this is just bad business. His response I’ll get it to you in a bit. The next day which was Sunday February 23rd

I confirmed my address and on Saturday February 22, 2014 I texted him if he shipped the guitar I got no response so I said I guess you don’t have to ship my guitar. I understand you’re busy but this is just bad business.

This is the Crown topping of it all He responded to me saying this, “Dropped it off at FedEx today… you’ll see movement on Monday. I asked for a tracking number and he texted back saying I’ll get it to you in a bit. Later that day it was about midnight and HE never responded with my tracking number. I texted him again and he never responded. Finally I texted him on Sunday February 23rd. Asking, “is it really that hard to give me the tracking number? If you truly shipped it then give me the tracking number. If not Tomorrow morning I’m calling my credit card company and to report this purchase as FRAUD”. He finally responded with this, “Dude….check it out….I’m at home… my shop is 8 miles away…. What was your deposit… I’ll look it up in the morning”. I told him my concern and my weariness of him saying one thing and never delivering. This whole ordeal made me feel that he is UNTRUSTWORTHY AND A LIAR!
He responded with this, “I understand. So here’s the deal I’ll provide shipping in the morning when I get to the shop. I’ve been remodeling my house all week and just today I’ve put in 10 hours and have a few more before I’m done and ready for my electrician in the morning. I know I’ve been stretched thin… I know your build has taken too long…. Some builders take years to deliver……Your guitar is on its way if you want. If not let me know.”

Ok so I’m thinking to myself first off if someone tells you that then it should mean that the guitar is done and shipped. Right? Am I a liar or should that mean that? So I gave him till the morning just like he said. On Monday February 24th I asked for the tracking number which he said he would provide for me… This dude gonna send me… no lie people… He took a photo of a screen I’m not sure if it was his cell phone or his computer and text it to me. It was of a pre shipped label. Does he think I’m stupid? I Called fedex and verified that the package was not shipped. In fact they haven’t even received it. FedEx is real time and as soon as he drops off the package it will be in the system.
So I called him on his lie and this dude had this response…… it was SOOOO LAME! He responds, “IT’s done…but honestly IF I delivered the most amazing guitar you’ve ever played this hasn’t been a great experience . and you will not enjoy playing her. I’m sorry things are what they are. If you’d like your refund via Pay pal I can do it today” I responded that I want the guitar you are just not being honest to if it is done and if it has been shipped. I caught him DEAD in his FAKE LIE! I told him I will enjoy it but I have to receive it to enjoy it! He called me and tried to say the same ole crap lie he was given me for the past couple of weeks. It’s done and really I just dropped it off at the FedEx around the corner. So I have his address.. I Went to maps and found the three FedEx locations and called everyone one of them to see if a Mike Gee dropped off a guitar being shipped to me all of them did not know any guy that brought a guitar in with an address to mines. You’re a big fat liar!.. I Called Mike Gee and called him back and explained to him that I called FedEx. They advised that once a package is dropped off the tracking number gets updated in real time so it will show right away in the system. Since you claimed you dropped it off already can you give me a snap photo of the receipt they gave you?” This dude text me back I didn’t get one. WOW……..Ladies and gents… I promise you no lie! I have proof of all of this! I then asked him what fedex location did you drop it off at? LOL I was investigating. He finally had enough and asked for my Pay Pal email so he could refund me my $525 deposit. 2 hours later he refunded me my money on a guitar that he claimed was already shipped to me and showed me proof that he refunded it….

To Mike Gee. If you were just truthful and not lie I would not of given you this review. But you totally lied to me about this guitar being completed. You lied about it being shipped multiple times. You tried to give me a pre shipped tracking number and this is bad business.
I want everyone to know to be careful with him. If you would of just told me the truth and not lied I would have been fine.

HE did refund my money that was good. He does make great guitars as I could only see on photo and videos. But I had the worse experience with him I advise to do business with someone locally so that you can ensure that your product is being made.

Hello,

My name is Mike Gee. This buyers experience was not how things normally go down. Unfortunately during this build I was more focused on remodeling my home than building guitars. Its embarrassing and not how I normally do business.

By the time I had the guitar done it was probably too little too late and the buyer was understandably upset. The guitar was at a local shipping store dropped off after FedEx pickup. When the bombardment of texts (of witch I later figured out may have been from 2 different people via 1 phone) were accusatory and rude I just figured it was best to refund the buyer his deposit of which I did immediately. I then went down to the shipping place and picked up the guitar before FedEx picked it up

I am a 1 man shop and I am fully capable of making mistakes. I am human after all. I handled this build in a less than professional manner and If I could do it all over I would have handled things different. I publicly apologize to the buyer an if there is anything I can do for him I am more than willing to do so.

I purchased a Jr DC from Mike around Christmas time, spoke to Mike several times on the phone and did in fact receive a fun little guitar a few weeks later. Neat little guitar and a bargain at the money. Just wanted to chime in and say you need not worry about buying a guitar from Mike. As far as how they are built and where they come from...I dont know...but do you care? If the price is right and guitar is a fun piece...rock it out. You want a Gibson Custom Shop? Call Gibson.
Mike sells a cool guitar at a cool price...and his youtube videos are a riot.
Mr Donelly, sir, please, physical threats over a guitar? Not on Reverb man.

Update,

Mr Donnelly Sold the Guitar "That I Removed" from the box on eBay in February of 2014 to one of my customers in Arkansas with the MGK logo removed. I searched closed auctions and found it. Search CUSTOM STRAT BY MIKE GEE (ebay #[protected])

When confronted with this the return emails said "I dont know who your talking about" ... then they said 5 people use that account... then they stated..."Your the A**hole who sold Johns guitar"...

Needless to say, once this was brought to eBays attention his account was suddenly "Not Registered" anymore. Im sure he opened another account...thats what Cockroaches do... fade away to a dark corner just to resurface later..

Update,
On Feb 2nd 2014 John Donnelly sold the Guitar that he claimed I "removed" from the box that was returned to him. Again, we refused the box because he inferred harm to me and my Family.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUSTOM-STRAT-BY-MIKE-GEE-/111266014630?pt=Guitar&hash=item19e7f8a5a6

When emailed through eBay johnstrat25 (he changed it to that after the incident) claimed that 5 people use that computer and I have the wrong person then called me an ###.

Mr Donnelly Is the Fraud. So far he got a free guitar through threats, intimidation, and lies to Me, Pay Pal, and Ebay. THEN he SOLD the Guitar That I SUPPOSEDLY REMOVED From The Box & THEN Gave to the Postal Clerk for them to "Return To Sender".

Hide behind your wife's skirt John...Its clear the kind of "Man" you are
Do NOT SELL OR BUY ANYTHING FROM John Donnelly.

Hello everyone. My name is Mike Grindstaff, aka MIKE GEE.
lets get the facts strait...
Mr John Donnelly purchased a guitar (and posted here) under his wifes name.
I did send him the wrong Red Guitar, I admitted that right away and offered to pay for the return of the guitar (even though the ebay auction said buyer pays for return) and refund his money as soon as it arrived. Mr Donnelly REFUSED to return the guitar until I had sent him a new one. No Retailer would do that. While on the phone with Mr Donnelly he threatened me, my business and my reputation claiming to "work for ebay" & "I will shut your f#%!&ng Ebay account down". Within minutes of calling my shop and my cell he started bombing my inbox with emails stating such things as "you will get yours" The best is yet to come" and on and on. Then he left profanity laced feedback on ebay fallowed by an email that said "Send me another guitar (even asking for a totally different guitar that cost more than his original purchase) and I will revise my feedback". Once this extortion was brought to ebay's attention they removed that feedback. Search "Mike Gee Kustoms ebay" and you will see zero negative feedback. Once the emails and feedback were reviewed by eBay they advised me to block this seller and that I had no obligation to do anything with this purchase.

After weeks of threatening emails Mr Donnelly suddenly informed me he was sending the guitar back. I informed him that "due to his words and actions I could not accept the package for fear of what may be inside it".

More threatening emails ensued.

Nearly 2 months after the sale of the guitar Mr Donnelly found my home address (to my new home that was purchased under my wifes name) and sent a smaller package insured for $50. USPS left a delivery notice. Now my wife is FREAKED OUT...Now I'm Mad.

I went to the post office to refuse the package. I showed them the emails and they agreed that it should go back, I NEVER EVEN SAW THE PACKAGE, I never touched the package...it went back.

Mr Donnelly received the package back and emailed me calling me every name in the book and claimed that I removed the contents and THEN refused the package...seriously? Not even possible. No USPS clerk would allow that.

All of this over a $189 transaction where I immediately offered to "Repair, Replace, or Refund" this guitar.

One more thing. Since he was not able to open a case via eBay he opened a case via Pay Pal. They eventually refunded his purchase because he received the last package back. Upon further review of the emails, looking at the Phoenix police Incident report (in witch they suggested getting a restraining order) they gave me a full credit...

Care to talk to me Directly? My Number is all over my eBay, You Tube, and other places. [protected]

My work speaks for its self and I have over 500 builds in circulation and in 20 + countries.
