I had a terrible experience with this ER doctor. She was rude, impatient, and completely lacking compassion. I came in with a fever of 39.2°C and a heart rate over 120, but she treated me like I was doing something wrong just for being there.
She told me to simply take Tylenol and Advil, and when my heart rate stayed high, she “offered†an IV and asked if I wanted it — as if that should be my decision instead of a medical call. When I asked if I could work the next day, she said yes without even asking what I do. I’m a labour worker, and anyone should know you can’t work like that with a fever near 40°C.
I told her I had just come back from Japan and that my friend there had Influenza A, which is very contagious. She replied, “We don’t have that type here in Canada.†— a careless and uninformed response.
After the IV, she asked how I felt. When I said I didn’t feel well, she couldn’t hear me, walked away to answer her phone for over 15 minutes, and came back acting like I wasn’t even there.
Overall, she was unprofessional, dismissive, and showed zero empathy. I left feeling worse emotionally than when I arrived physically. This kind of attitude has no place in healthcare — patients deserve to be treated with basic respect and compassion.
